Poznan, ICHS International Congress of Historical Studies

Session of the Commission of History of International Relations into the XXIII World Congress of Historical Sciences, ICHS, Poznan 2020.
(It will be postponed to 21th – 27th August 2022, because of Covid-19.)

Dear colleagues,

We are happy to confirm that your proposal has been accepted to be presented in the session of the Commission of History of International Relations into the XXIII World Congress of Historical Sciences, ICHS, Poznan 2022.

The provisional program of our session is enclosed as attachment. As you can see, we will have four parts and a final round table.

In all cases, each participant will have a 10 minutes (maximum) for her/his presentation. Adequate time will be reserved for general discussion after each part.

According to the rules of the International Committee of Historical Sciences:

All participants have to confirm their participation, writing an e.mail to the organizers of their session.

It means that they are able to find the funding for their travel and accommodation expenses, plus fees for registration in the World Congress. All participants will have to register and pay the corresponding fees directly through the official website of the World Congress (fees will be around 100 €).

Participants will have to submit their text to the organizers of their session prior to the Congress (we suppose before June 2020, but we will indicate the exact date later). The length of the papers should be kept between 30.000 and 35.000 characters, including spaces (between 6.000 and 7.000 words).

When we have further and more precise news about these practical questions from the International Committee of Historical Sciences (ICHS), we will write you again.

There is already some information about the World Congress in: https://ichs2020poznan.pl/en

It includes a provisional program of the Congress. The list does not include yet sessions organized by the international historical organizations (commissions, associations, committees) affiliated with CISH, as it is the case of our Commission of History of International Relations. It will appear later.

On behalf of the Commission of History of International Relations, best regards,

Prospectus: The world is currently at the turning point. The 20th century was a century of world wars. Two world wars occurred, and the Cold War ruled the world after the two world wars.
Amidst the post-war devastation, the European Community and European Union was formed in Europe; Europe has created peaceful governance by building economic collaboration, institutions and establishing the rule of law. In Asia, ASEAN also pursued regional governance after WWII. However, there is a new nationalism in the contemporary world. Populism is spreading in Europe.

There is a wave of rapid economic growth in rising countries, especially in China and India. Destabilization in search of democratization is spreading simultaneously in East Asia, East South Asia, and South Asia.

In this field, based on the three wars in the 20th century (WWI, WWII, Cold War), what kind of regional institutionalization and regional governance have been built up in an attempt to avoid endless war and conflicts? We will examine and consider what kind of order is needed to stabilize the conflict regions among both Europe and Asia.

The theme of the Tokyo and Kyoto Conferences are to investigate and clarify how the countries that experienced the World Wars have considered regional coexistence in each period and each region and how to establish peace, stability and prosperity under institutions and rule of law. We would like to organize the Tokyo and Kyoto Conference and discuss Post-war regional cooperation and governance in this transition period. We hope many scholars and young researchers will join us and discuss how to make New World Orders from these unstable periods.
